# Free AML/CTF readiness check

Ten questions, about five minutes, no sign-up. You see your score, your gaps and what to fix first. It runs in the browser and nothing you answer is stored. It is general information, not legal advice, and a high score does not mean you comply. Take it at https://plainaml.com.au/check/

## The ten questions

For each, answer In practice (2 points), On paper (1) or No / not sure (0). The score is out of 20.

1. **Enrolled with AUSTRAC**: Your business is enrolled and your details are current.
2. **Someone runs the program every month**: A named person owns AML/CTF at management level and does the recurring checks, reviews and records, not just wrote the document.
3. **A written risk assessment for your business**: It covers your own clients, services, delivery channels and locations, not a generic template.
4. **Policies approved by a senior manager**: Your AML/CTF policies are written and formally signed off.
5. **Every new client is identified before you act**: You verify identity before providing the regulated service, every time.
6. **Beneficial owners of companies and trusts**: For entity clients you find and verify who really owns or controls them.
7. **Sanctions and PEP screening**: Clients are screened against sanctions lists and for politically exposed persons, and re-screened over time.
8. **Staff are trained, with records**: Relevant staff have done AML/CTF training and you can show when.
9. **You know when and how to report**: Staff know what a suspicious matter is, the deadline to report, and not to tip off the client.
10. **You could answer an AUSTRAC notice this week**: If AUSTRAC asked for your program and client records, you could produce them in days.

## Scores

- 17 to 20: In practice. Your program looks like it runs day to day.
- 10 to 16: On paper. You have documents, but parts are not followed every time.
- 0 to 9: Exposed. Key parts of the program are missing.
